Seafarers Visit the Red Star Line Museum

On 6 May, Antwerp Seafarers Welfare/Stella Maris organised a special visit for seafarers to the Red Star Line Museum. The guided tour offered participants a meaningful opportunity to discover the rich history of migration from Europe to the Americas and to learn more about the experiences of millions of migrants who passed through Antwerp on their journey to a new life overseas.

During the visit, the seafarers explored the museum’s exhibitions, which tell the personal stories of hope, hardship, and opportunity connected to the historic Red Star Line shipping company. Through photographs, documents, and interactive displays, the group gained insight into the important role Antwerp played as a gateway for migrants travelling across the Atlantic.

The visit also provided an opportunity for seafarers from different backgrounds to connect with history and reflect on the shared themes of travel, separation from home, and life at sea. Antwerp Seafarers Welfare - the umbrella organisation where Stella Maris is an important member- continues to organise cultural and recreational activities that support the wellbeing of visiting seafarers and help them experience the city during their stay in port.
